About the person behind practical business software.

I help businesses understand what needs improving, define the right software route and turn operational pressure into systems people can actually use.

About me

I bring the business conversation and the software delivery together.

I’m Danny, a Greater Manchester-based Business Software Consultant & Developer. Over 17 years, I have worked with 149 businesses across heavily regulated sectors including finance, insurance and renewable energy, as well as SaaS, logistics and telecoms.

“One of my quickest achievements was building a secure policy-document portal for an insurance company in a week. It replaced document delivery to policyholders, saving the business around £20,000 a month in Royal Mail delivery fees.”

What drives me

Nothing gives me more satisfaction than stepping into a business, understanding how the work really moves and spotting better ways of doing things that are difficult to see from inside the day-to-day operation. Sometimes that means improving what already exists; other times it means designing and implementing a new system. The best part is seeing the difference as soon as it goes live: clearer workflows, less repetitive admin and more time for work that needs people’s judgement and experience.

Outside work

You’ll usually find me in the gym, out mountain biking, skiing or fishing. When I’m closer to home, I’m often building and flying FPV drones, tinkering with servers or exploring new technology.

Origin story

The founder route taught me to connect software to commercial outcomes early.

Most people start their careers with an internship; mine started in a college classroom and a local BNI meeting. I launched my first agency, Northplanet, at 17 while studying web and software development.

I learned quickly that software is only valuable when it changes something for the business: cost, speed, oversight, customer experience, risk or growth.

Running a company that young meant learning delivery, trust, sales, people and technical decision-making under real pressure. That foundation still shapes how I work.

That chapter grew into a local agency serving more than 148 businesses, leading a team of six and mentoring apprentices. It gave me the commercial grounding behind my work today: understand the business first, then make the software direction clear.

Commercial timeline

The commercial path behind the technical judgement.

A career built across founder pressure, consultancy, technical direction and business-critical software. The useful bit is the range: I understand directors, clients, developers, delivery risk and the code that has to hold it all together.

OrbitWeb Ltd

Technical Director

Show MoreShow Less

I lead the technical and delivery direction for OrbitWeb Ltd, my web and business software development company.

The role brings together business software consultancy, discovery, requirements, prototyping, hands-on development, hosting and ongoing support for organisations improving an existing operation or building something new.

I remain directly involved in the work while shaping OrbitWeb into an accountable agency that can grow through employees and trusted specialists without losing technical clarity or delivery ownership.

Utilda Group

Technical Director

Show MoreShow Less

I lead the technical direction for a portfolio of SaaS products built around business optimisation, operational leverage and software-powered growth.

The work starts with practical commercial problems: manual processes, weak data flows, disconnected teams, missed customer opportunities or internal systems that slow the business down. From there, I help turn the opportunity into product vision, architecture, roadmap and delivery.

The aim is to build more than useful tools. Utilda is focused on creating scalable SaaS products with clear markets, strong technical foundations and the potential to become investment-ready opportunities.

03

2018 – 2024

Jarpa Ltd

Technical Director

Show MoreShow Less

I was asked to join Jarpa as a technical director, becoming a practical software and architecture resource for the wider insurance group.

The role meant sitting between group-level commercial priorities and engineering delivery, shaping backend systems, roadmaps, architecture decisions and software that had to work in real business conditions.

I replaced a costly manual Royal Mail document process with a secure digital document vault, taking the work from specification through to deployment.

I also led CRM, sales pipeline, compliance, vetting and risk-management systems in the insurance sector, plus renewable-energy validation software used to check energy-saving claims before they became operational or finance risk.

Alongside the hands-on Laravel, Vue, AWS and Digital Ocean work, I mentored junior developers, reviewed architecture and helped create the technical standards and delivery rhythm needed for reliable software.

2016 – 2018

O2 Telecoms, MID Communications

Consultant

This period sharpened the commercial side of my technical judgement. I worked close to customer pressure, sales targets and operational detail, where the right answer had to make sense commercially as well as technically.

It gave me a stronger understanding of communication workflows, customer experience, business operations and the importance of explaining complex choices in plain English.

Northplanet Ltd

Founder & Technical Director

I started Northplanet at 17 while studying web and software development, then grew it into a local digital agency serving more than 148 businesses across Greater Manchester.

The work covered brand, websites, e-commerce, PPC, mobile apps and custom software, but the real education was leadership: winning trust, managing clients, setting technical direction, growing a team of six and mentoring apprentices into the industry.

That chapter built the foundation for how I work now: understand the business problem first, make the technical route clear, then lead the people and delivery needed to make it real.

History timeline

The founder years that shaped the software work.

Northplanet is where the practical lessons started: selling the work, building the systems, hiring people, taking bigger bets and learning how technical decisions show up in real businesses.

Northplanet started with a practical offer for real businesses.

The earliest Northplanet work was direct and commercial: help local companies get online, make the offer clear and turn technical skill into something a client would pay for.

The first office made the work real. It was client calls, proposals, delivery deadlines and learning quickly that a technology business needs trust, momentum and ownership as much as code.

Moving into a bigger office changed the ambition. Alongside client websites, Northplanet built a social media and blogging SaaS with real customer workflows, recurring product thinking and a platform approach that went beyond one-off web projects.

Perk Point became an investment pitch at Google with a £1.5m ask, pushing the work into product ideas, investor conversations and larger commercial decisions. It taught me how quickly technical ambition has to meet evidence, focus and cash reality.
