StarStore for ST&R

Project year 2024-2025

A secure customer vault for insurance policies, personal documents and trusted access.

60 second pitch

What StarStore does.

StarStore is the secure online account ST&R customers use to access important policy documents, store personal paperwork and keep key product information in one place. It supports the public promise of a free document store that customers can use from desktop or mobile, with a policy holder QR card and trusted access for a partner or next of kin when needed.

Behind that simple customer experience is an internal platform for ST&R to manage customers, products, providers, brokers, document uploads, product statuses, notifications, permissions and reporting.

Role

Product planning, system architecture and hands-on Laravel/Vue delivery

Sector

Insurance, mortgages, customer document storage and policy servicing

Stack

Laravel, Vue.js, MySQL, Sanctum, roles and permissions, two-factor authentication, secure file uploads, tokenised downloads and reporting

Product shape

A document vault only works when it is simple for customers and controlled for the team.

The platform had to feel straightforward for customers checking their cover or uploading paperwork, while giving ST&R enough structure to manage products, providers, files, statuses, trusted access and customer communications properly.

01

The problem

ST&R needed a secure way to deliver, store and manage important customer documents.

ST&R works with customers across insurance and mortgage products, where the paperwork still matters long after the initial sale. Customers need somewhere secure to find policy documents, check what cover they have, upload supporting paperwork and share key information with a trusted person if needed.

For the business, the challenge was not just file storage. The internal team needed to manage customers, products, providers, brokers, statuses, document types, uploads, access permissions, welcome emails, product notifications, QR access cards and reporting in one controlled platform.

02

Why it was built

StarStore gives customers and the ST&R team one secure place for policy paperwork.

The customer side gives people a simple account where they can view their products, download policy documents, upload personal documents and keep key details up to date. It turns important paperwork into something customers can return to, instead of something buried in email or waiting to be posted.

The admin side gives ST&R the controls behind that experience. Staff can create customers, attach products, upload documents, manage providers and product types, resend welcome emails, track product statuses, support policy holder QR cards and see the operational reporting behind the customer base.

03

How it works

Each customer account connects products, documents, access and communication.

A customer can have multiple products, each with a provider, product type, document reference, status, start date, end date and attached files. Secure downloads are handled through tokenised file links, while permissions and two-factor authentication protect access to the platform.

Customers can also upload their own personal documents into categories, invite a next of kin to see an overview of their protection, request a replacement card and manage profile, address and marketing preferences from the same account.

04

Why it matters

The platform reduces admin friction while giving customers better access to the documents that protect them.

StarStore helps move policy servicing away from fragmented admin and into a clear self-service platform. Customers can find the documents they need, and the business has a stronger record of what has been issued, uploaded, viewed and managed.

That matters because secure customer portals only work when they are useful to both sides. The customer experience has to be simple, while the operational layer needs enough control for a real financial services workflow.
